Needed That!

Missus JB and I managed to sneak out of the house this weekend, took the tent, sleeping bags, dogs, and a 12 pack of beer and headed to Brown County State Park with our goals set forth:

  1. Relax as much as possible.
  2. Repeat Step 1.  

Stopped in Nashville, Indiana, for a pizza lunch on the patio, let a bunch of little kids pet the doggies (the dogs love it as much as the kids to) and managed to take a 2 hour hike in the woods before settling in at the camp.  Cooked my favorite camp meal*, lit a campfire, drank our beers, and talked until we got tired, then slept.

It was nice and chilly, but not intolerably so, especially when you remember that we had about 140 pounds of fur snuggled in the tent with us.

Up on Sunday morning, some coffee and oatmeal, then a quick trip over to Bloomington for lunch.  Again, a lovely day to sit on the patio and enjoy the clear, warm, fall day.  Got home, and collected the Spawn who spent the weekend with their dad.

Monday morning came way too soon, as I would not have objected to another day off, but when one takes the Queen's shilling, one goes to work when the Queen beckons.

Back to the grind today.

* 1.5 cups rice, cooked per package directions.  Add a can of chunk chicken (a can of tuna would work, but I despise canned tuna) and a can of Cream of Mushroom soup.  Heat thoroughly, season with cayenne pepper, and eat.  Hot, filling, cheap, tasty, easy to cook on a camp stove.  What more do you want out of a back country meal?
