This Parenting Thing

Is harder than it looks.

I've noticed that a lot of the things I want to do are placed on the back burner because of things they (Elder Spawn and Spawn the Younger) need me to do.

And not just big things... I can easily understand why taking a week off to go climbing isn't gonna happen... But little things, too. I want to take a nap, for example, but it ain't happening because the girls will be home from school soon and need a snack and help with homework, or someone to drive them to cheer, or supervision as they play with their friends on the trampoline.

It's different. But it is also a lot of fun.

Yep, kids DO change one's life (even if you DO step up and step in after they're a bit older)!!!

What Old NFO said. Some day maybe you'll meet my son and he can tell you how his life changed.

Naps are a thing of the past, as is putting yourself first. From now on, you'll be known not as JB, but as Elder and Younger Spawn's step dad, or if you're really lucky, dad.

The payoff comes the day that you realize that you had a part (probably bigger than you realized) in raising productive, upstanding adults.
